Why we made PlantOS
I grow for personal medicinal purposes and I also run an account documenting some of the bonsai techniques I experiment with along the way. We’re a team of two, and we manage everything ourselves, from seed to harvest, on top of the design, web, books, and social activity with no outside help. Alongside all of this, growing involves keeping track of a lot: genetics, key dates, plant age, nutrient schedules, tasks. I used to either make a note I’d lose, or take a picture on my phone of a date to keep track of when I germinated my plants and when I flipped them. Calculating dates to plan ahead involved checking calendars and counting weeks, and trying to remember which week my plants were in.

I eventually wanted to organize better and dial in my process, so I looked for options to help me track and manage everything about my grow in one place. I was already using Notion as a project management tool and started building for myself what would eventually become plantOS. I kept adding more features and more complex formulas, and found it really helpful, so I want to make it available to others who might also be facing the same challenges.

Why did you build this on Notion?
Coming from UX design and project management backgrounds, we have used various project management software throughout our careers. Notion stands out due to its intuitive integrations and flexibility in creating frameworks for different types of projects. We actually use it a lot for managing CBZ's activities, including content management, project management, and product management.


Can I use this offline?
Yes, you can use Notion offline on desktop and mobile devices. However, because Notion is cloud based, you can only view your previously synced pages and databases offline, changes will sync once you’re back online.


Is my data safe?
CBZ Press has no access to your data within Notion. Notion uses TLS 1.2 to encrypt network traffic between users' browsers and the Notion platform, and AES-256 bit encryption to secure your database connection credentials and data stored at rest. They also support two-factor authentication (2FA), and allow users to control who has access to their workspace. Notion does not sell your personal information, even if you use the free plan. However, it's important to note that no online platform can guarantee absolute security.
